Baby's First Chandelier

The nursery is beginning to take shape. Baby Daddy spent about 30 minutes this weekend installing this gorgeous light fixture. Guess which one of us insisted the baby needed a chandelier? We haven't set up a crib or any other necessary baby furniture, but we' ve got crystals dangling from the ceiling. At least she'll be well lit.

Deep Fried Cheesecake

A woman with child is expected to gain a moderate amount of weight – 25 pounds if she’s skinny, 15 if she’s not. Some of us pregnant ladies with little or no discipline often indulge in some sweet and greasy treats. Come on, if you didn’t have to worry about people thinking you had a fat gut, you’d eat whatever you wanted, right? But there are times, when those you call your friends lead you down a dangerous food road.

This week I had a fun night out with my dear friend Emily (who’ll you’ll hear lots about in the coming months) and our friend Sara. They dined on sushi, which, of course, I’m not allowed to eat, so instead I had deep fried dumplings – a healthy alternative :) And then to top off our healthful meal, I was strong armed into sharing tempura cheesecake for dessert. Yes, you read right, deep friend cheesecake topped with ice cream and sweet cream sauce. The evidence is in the picture. As I write this, the burger and mashed potatoes I had for lunch today have barely digested.

I haven't had any cravings, but for a while, I had the worst case of suggestive eating. Name a food and I wanted it if you said it. One of my friends mentioned BBQ one day and I just had to have some. I was on my way to the BBQ spot when Jervon called and said he had Chinese for lunch. I immediately turned around and went to my favorite Chinese place. BBQ was a distant memory.

At home, things are better. Baby daddy makes sure I eat light, balanced meals. Lots of fruits and veggies. But he’s not innocent either. Last Saturday he baked an irresistible chocolate cake. The week before he made a raspberry cheesecake.
Somehow, with all these temptations, and my own lack of discipline, I’ve only gained 7 pounds in the last 5.5 months (although I look like I’ve gained a ton). But for once, I'm not worried. I'm totally happy with my body and belly. In fact, I'll proudly wear a bathing suit when we go to Nassau on our "babymoon" in a couple weeks.

5-and-a-half months belly

Many of my friends and family are still tickled by the thought of me pregnant. Well it's true and here's the proof. No, this is not the result of a large meal or one too many six packs. There's actually a little somebody playing hopscotch in there.
I am absolutely enjoying being pregnant. I may be singing a different tune at 8.5 months, but I'm a little sad that there's only 3 and a half months left. This is such an amazing experience. To quote one of my favorite artists, Lauryn Hill (pre-breakdown), "I touch my belly overwhelmed by what I have been chosen to perform."

Reggae baby

Our baby's not here yet, but she's already stirring up fashion trends. Some dear friends at work who obviously know me very well bought this for the baby they've claimed as the archer>malmo PR baby. She's a fashionista in the making. Hopefully she won't inherit my addiction to shoes and purses.

T minus 4 months

There was no application process, no exam to pass, yet, in just four months, Jervon and I will be parents, responsible for a tiny human life. To say we're thrilled, excited, overjoyed and scared to death would be an understatement. We are already head over heels in love with the 10-inch, 11oz thing that's growing inside of my belly. We can't wait to meet her.
Many of you have asked for updates, so to make it easier for you to keep up with our baby news, we'll post frequent updates here, and continue to share ad nauseam after she comes in May.

She's already quite photogenic. Here she is at 19 week, just chilling.
Check back for updates.
