Getting Ready for Baby

What a crazy week it has been. Somewhere between working a full time job and going to school until 10 p.m. Baby Daddy found time to paint the nursery. Of course I didn't make it easy. I thought the first color that he used to painstakinly edge the entire room was too "light white". So J, the patient angel that he is, returned to Lowes and brought home a lovely buttery yellow.

And this weekend, our baby's Aunt Emily and Uncle Dave gifted her with a beautiful Pottery Barn crib. They even threw in some elbow grease and helped us set it up. I stood off to the side supervising and wondered how many PhDs it takes to set up a simple crib.

Of course I'll be putting my touches of color in the room. A couple years ago we found a side table with some really funky curves and angles at a yard sale. This week I'll sand it and paint it lavender to complement the crib bedding. Next, I'll assemble the powder-blue console that we'll use as a changing table.

I've been having panic dreams that the baby suddenly comes and we weren't prepared. After our accomplishments this past week, I think I'll be retiring those dreams, at least until I find something else to panic about.

Bahama Mama!

After an unexpected layover in a smokefilled hotel room in Atlanta, Jervon and I made our way, to Nassau, where we thought we'd be total beach bums and enjoy a few moments of peace and quiet before we face the unknown.

While we had a few fabulous beach moments, our trip turned out to be a big family love fest. We found so much joy spending time with Jervon's sweet Grammy, and all our aunts, uncles and cousins who showed us so much love. We're so blessed to be bringing our baby into such loving and supportive families.

Thanks to Jervon's cousin Leroy and his wife Lisa for tusting me with their beautiful baby boy, Trey. Holding him was a delightful glimpse into the future.

To those who thought I was too chicken to wear a bathing suit in my bulging state. Guess again. It may not have been pretty but it was pretty darn liberating :)

We've shaken off the sand and now it's back to Memphis and back to the reality of preparing for baby. Hopefully we'll be able to fit in one more getaway before the sleepless nights begin.

6 months Belly. See her move!

What a whirlwind of a week it has been. Work has been insanely busy and I'm so ready to go on vacation. Before the week is over, I hope to be lounging on a beach chair in Nassau. Baby daddy and I are preparing to leave the madness behind and head to the Bahamas for a few days. We can't wait to spend time with family and become total beach bums.

I had my 24-week check up and our little lady is right on target -- she had a strong heart beat and my stomach measured 23 centimeters.

And today, a totally new experience. Baby has been quite active in my belly for a few weeks now. I often feel her move after meals or when I'm just stitting still. Today, she did a few summersaults to remind me of her presence, and for the first time I could actually see her movements through my clothes. It was like witnessing something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Amazing.
