Deep Fried Cheesecake

A woman with child is expected to gain a moderate amount of weight – 25 pounds if she’s skinny, 15 if she’s not. Some of us pregnant ladies with little or no discipline often indulge in some sweet and greasy treats. Come on, if you didn’t have to worry about people thinking you had a fat gut, you’d eat whatever you wanted, right? But there are times, when those you call your friends lead you down a dangerous food road.

This week I had a fun night out with my dear friend Emily (who’ll you’ll hear lots about in the coming months) and our friend Sara. They dined on sushi, which, of course, I’m not allowed to eat, so instead I had deep fried dumplings – a healthy alternative :) And then to top off our healthful meal, I was strong armed into sharing tempura cheesecake for dessert. Yes, you read right, deep friend cheesecake topped with ice cream and sweet cream sauce. The evidence is in the picture. As I write this, the burger and mashed potatoes I had for lunch today have barely digested.

I haven't had any cravings, but for a while, I had the worst case of suggestive eating. Name a food and I wanted it if you said it. One of my friends mentioned BBQ one day and I just had to have some. I was on my way to the BBQ spot when Jervon called and said he had Chinese for lunch. I immediately turned around and went to my favorite Chinese place. BBQ was a distant memory.

At home, things are better. Baby daddy makes sure I eat light, balanced meals. Lots of fruits and veggies. But he’s not innocent either. Last Saturday he baked an irresistible chocolate cake. The week before he made a raspberry cheesecake.
Somehow, with all these temptations, and my own lack of discipline, I’ve only gained 7 pounds in the last 5.5 months (although I look like I’ve gained a ton). But for once, I'm not worried. I'm totally happy with my body and belly. In fact, I'll proudly wear a bathing suit when we go to Nassau on our "babymoon" in a couple weeks.

Hey dear--

While I applaud the deep fried cheesecake, the no-sushi rule is an evil myth!
