The first time I felt our baby move it was early in the 5th month. I was driving home from work one afternoon in great spirits and decided to pop in my throw back "Shabba Ranks" CD. I turned up the volume on high and was jamming to "Mr Loverman" when I felt this rush of bubbles in my tummy.
The following weekend Jervon and I were at his church when the choir gave a soul-stirring performance -- she felt it too and her movements were more pronounced. Maybe she prefers gospel to reggae, I don't know.
To ensure that she comes out of the womb with a good sense of rhythm, I've been careful to expose her to lots of Dominican Calypso music, Bob Marley's reggae tunes and of course, my favorites, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef.
She'll probably be a political junkie like I am because of all the talk radio (yes, Rush Limbaugh included) that she's been forced to listen to.
Last night, my friend Sheron and I caught a fabulous Michael Buble concert at the FedEx forum. Thanks to our boss, we had seats just 5 rows from the stage. I think I caught one of his sweat drops. The talent was unbelievable, from the opening act, Naturally 7 -- an a capella group that uses no instruments but creates the most riveting music -- to Buble's mic-less, music-less finale. Throughout the concert I could feel our Wiggle dancing up a storm. And if anyone was looking at my belly they could have seen that her dance moves were on beat!
I love feeling her movements. As she grows and runs out of room in my tummy, I feel every kick, punch and back flip. Sometimes, in meetings I smile to myself when she moves. It's our private conversation -- a secret that I'm so pleased to share with her.
I'm even more pleased that she shares our love of music -- hence the name of the blog -- babyboogie :)
